PORTFOLIO: RETREATS: Indianola Retreat
Set on the end of a sand spit in Puget Sound, this weekend home is thoughtfully integrated into the existing landscape and nestled against a grove of native shore pines. The design makes stylistic references to Japanese architecture and American Modernism by blurring the boundaries between inside and outside space. A careful balancing of natural light is achieved in the main living space through the clerestory windows in the upper roof. Wood decks and trellises extend the living spaces into the landscape. An interior palette of hemlock paneling, native sandstone, and steel detailing creates a feeling of tranquility.
