ON THE BOARDS: Washington Park Residence
This single-family residence is set on an east facing bluff overlooking Lake Washington. The contemporary home was designed as a study in mass and light. A series of low architectural concrete walls on the west elevation offer privacy from the street while the east side features banks of floor to ceiling windows, flooding the interior with light and creating a transparent façade to capture dramatic views. The simple material palette of concrete, steel, and wood give the home a sophisticated and modern character.
The home will replace two existing residences on the property, both of which will be either salvaged or recycled. A planted roof over the majority of the structure serves to manage storm water runoff and a geothermal system will maximize energy efficiency.
